Save your eggshells, help your plants!

Eggshells are almost entirely made of calcium, and plants need calcium to grow and thrive. Use this easy garden activity to reduce waste & improve your soil health!

Here’s How:

  1. Collect eggshells, you’ll want roughly 4-5 shells for each plant.
  2. Once collected, rinse shells in water, removing any remaining goo.
  3. Bake at 275 for about an hour. Baking kills any harmful bacteria and dries out the egg membrane so they crush better.
  4. Crush the shells! You may use a mortar & pestle, food processor, or simply a bag and rolling pin, like we did. The smaller you get the pieces, the quicker the shells will break down and be available for use by your plants.
  5. Add the crushed shells to your soil. You can mix the them in, sprinkle on top, or sprinkle a handful into the planting hole for transplants.
  6. Sit back and watch your plants thrive!
