Save your eggshells, help your plants!
Eggshells are almost entirely made of calcium, and plants need calcium to grow and thrive. Use this easy garden activity to reduce waste & improve your soil health!
Here’s How:
- Collect eggshells, you’ll want roughly 4-5 shells for each plant.
- Once collected, rinse shells in water, removing any remaining goo.
- Bake at 275 for about an hour. Baking kills any harmful bacteria and dries out the egg membrane so they crush better.
- Crush the shells! You may use a mortar & pestle, food processor, or simply a bag and rolling pin, like we did. The smaller you get the pieces, the quicker the shells will break down and be available for use by your plants.
- Add the crushed shells to your soil. You can mix the them in, sprinkle on top, or sprinkle a handful into the planting hole for transplants.
- Sit back and watch your plants thrive!
