This class series is geared towards folks who identify as female or AFAB folks.

Do tools such as chainsaws, weed wackers, and the like, feel a little out of reach? Maybe even intimidating? In this class, we will cultivate confidence and efficiency through knowledge and ergonomic practices that are safe for the female form. Your instructors will guide you in a hands-on workshop that covers four useful home and garden tools: chainsaw (electric and gas), weed wacker (electric and gas), table saw, and drills. Instructors:

Lauren Kelso, Site Director:  Lauren has been doing residential gardening and landscaping in Boulder for 12 years and has studied design under-recognized and outstanding designers such as Alison Peck and Lauren Springer Ogden. She has her Colorado Master Gardener’s Certificate and specializes in gardening in the West with natives and edible landscapes. Lauren headed up the site and tree selection for the Growing Garden’s Community Orchard. She continues to learn about the magic of pruning and tending fruit trees from specialists across the state of Colorado.

Lauren Festa, Greenhouse & Facilities Coordinator: Lauren grew up in the rolling hills of The Shire snacking on cherry tomatoes out of her mom’s garden. Lauren learned how to grow vegetables, flowers, and herbs from New England farmers and participated in a Level 1 Herbal Studies Program at Misty Meadows Herbal Center in New Hampshire. Since then, Lauren’s passion for plants has taken her to the deserts of Arizona and, most recently, to Colorado where she found her dream job. This is Lauren’s 3rd year as the Greenhouse and Facilities Coordinator at Growing Gardens and she is excited to bring her experience and love of living things to this community.
