Find the perfect lavender for your garden this year.

Lavenders are a great choice for your sunny garden. They are fairly drought and heat-tolerant, once established. Lavender requires good drainage, so it is wise to add a bit of grit such as gravel to the planting hole. Also, planting at the top of a slope or mound is a good idea, so that they don’t have to sit in cold wet conditions during the winter months.

Lavenders are deer resistant and bee magnets, so go ahead and plant some this year.

We sell a few varieties, such as ‘Hidcote Blue’, ‘Munstead’, ‘Super Blue’ and ‘Phenomenal’ during our Annual Community Plant Sale event, with our current favorite being ‘Phenomenal’ which, as his name suggests, does phenomenally in our region. It is winter-hardy and its gray-green leaves stand out in the landscape. The purple blooms reach a height of 32” and stay from mid-summer to fall.

The cut flowers smell heavenly in a bouquet, or you can hang them to dry in a dark room and have dried flowers for lavender sachets, essential oils, or any other projects that require the scent of lavender.
