We have been working with Community Food Share (CFS) to develop programs to offer to low-income neighborhoods.
In 2001 and 2002 Growing Gardens put in gardens at the Woodlands Neighborhood, Casa de la Esperanza, San Juan del Centro and the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless with the help of the ¡Cultiva! Project and Community Garden volunteers. Growing Gardens provided, soil, tools, and educational resources such as gardening, nutrition, and food preparation classes. The youth from ¡Cultiva! worked with CFS to meet with community members, plan and build the gardens, and assist with the education.
Growing Gardens donated plants and seeds to get the new gardeners started. As the season progressed we also taught gardening classes as well as cooking and nutrition classes (thanks to the CSU ExtensionService for providing the nutrition education). One of our community gardeners, Jodi Niggeman gave a medicinal herb class.
