Internships

Our programs are dynamic, growing, and youth centered.
We ask that interns contain a desire to learn, work hard and have a positive attitude.
Growing Gardens’ expectations of intern:

  • Personal Growing Gardens Internsresponsibility
  • Timeliness
  • 24 hour cancellation notice
  • Follow through on accepted tasks
  • Clear, open, honest and kind communication
  • Willingness to do repetitive/contemplative tasks
  • Willingness to do physical work a garden
    projects asks
  • Semester or season long commitment
  • Mature, healthy role modeling in the relationship development with Cultiva! participants
  • Joyful participation in garden activities


Growing Gardens Interns are expected to commit to an average of 10-15 hours a week. This is negotiable based upon the number of credits taken for Independent Study.

Summer Internship Opportunity:
Greenhouse and ¡Cultiva! Youth

May 15 – August 25 with two weeks off during the summer for vacation, flexible with intern schedule. (This schedule is preferred by Growing Gardens.)

or

June 1 – August 25 with time off before internship begins.


May 15 – May 31

  • Assist with Plant Sale
    • Transplanting in Greenhouse
    • Greenhouse transformation from nursery to food production
      • Plant tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant and flowers in Greenhouse
      • Build trellises and infrastructure
      • Irrigation system maintenance
  • Greenhouse Crop Care
  • Transplanting from Greenhouse to Gardens

June 1 – August 25

  • Daily work with the Cultiva! Youth Project
  • Camp out with Cultiva and Wildlands Restoration Volunteers
  • Other possible opportunities with Cultiva: Slow Food, Farmer’s Market, and Community Food Share
  • Available to assist with group volunteer projects
  • Act as role models and mentors for Cultiva participants
  • Organize community events in the gardens
  • Garden support for Able Garden Program
  • Help to maintain the backyard compost demonstration site and/or neighborhood site
  • Assist in fundraising for Cultiva Harvest dinner

Children’s Peace Garden and Greenhouse
September 1 - December 1

  • Assist in organizing ¡Cultiva! Harvest Dinner
    • Silent auction
    • Sponsor relationship
    • tracking ticket sales and auction items
  • Greenhouse bed preparation and planting of green manure and/or fall crops
  • Assist with craft days with ¡Cultiva! youth
    • Candle Creation
    • Wreath Production
  • Assist with fall bed preparation in the Community Gardens and planting of green manure
  • Organize community events in the gardens
  • Assist with fall bed preparation and soil revitalization in ¡Cultiva! field, Able Garden, and Children’s Peace Garden
  • Assist in final garden compost collection and compost site fall/winter preparation
